Crescent City Veterinary Hospital offers a wide-range of internal medical and diagnostic services to better treat your pet.
Blood work, radiographs (x-rays), ultrasound and other diagnostic procedures are important tools that can help find and diagnose serious health problems in your pet. Our hospital offers the following in-house diagnostic procedures:
- Hematology (blood work)—Blood chemistry, red blood cell count, thyroid tests.
- Fecal exams—We screen all fecal-tests in-house, but also send exams to an outside lab in order to better detect giardia, a fecal parasite not easily detected under a microscope.
- X-Rays—X-Rays and other radiographic procedures are a way to detect and diagnose a range of health problems in a non-invasive manner that is not stressful for your pet.
- Ultrasound—An ultrasound uses sound waves to create a picture of the inside of your pet's body. It is an extremely useful tool for evaluating the abdomen and the heart and can provide information that x-rays do not. It is a very safe, non-invasive procedure.
- Doppler blood pressure—Doppler provides an extremely accurate reading of your pet's blood pressure.
- Electrocardiogram—An electrocardiogram (ECG) is useful in monitoring your pet's heart rate and detecting any abnormalities that may be present.
When advanced diagnostic tests are needed, we will send tests to some of the best veterinary laboratories in the country, including Antech, Michigan State University and Texas A&M University.
Dermatology
There is a high incidence of allergies in the New Orleans area. Because of this, we look for safe, long-term management protocols. We manage 95 percent of our dermatology cases here in the hospital and offer referrals to a local board-certified dermatologist.
Ophthalmology
We offer medical and surgical solutions to most common eye problems and offer referrals for more difficult cases to a local board-certified ophthalmologist. We have the ability to diagnose and monitor glaucoma with a digital tonometer.
Oncology
We offer chemotherapy to patients with systemic cancers, including lymphoma and melanoma. Chemotherapy is done here at the hospital, and is generally done on an outpatient basis. We also remove most soft-tissue tumors. Pain management is a key element of our oncology protocol.
